RESUMO

The aim of the current review was to analyze primary studies about energy drink consumption patterns in adolescents and their relationship with mental health. PubMed, PLOS ONE, PsycINFO, and ScienceDirect databases were searched to identify articles related to adverse effects of energy drinks in adolescents and young adults aged 11 to 18 years. Psychological and behavioral measures were based on validated screening tools used in various contexts, and bias was detected in energy drink consumption patterns. In regard to sex, boys consumed more energy drinks than girls, and a strong, positive association was reported between consumption and probability of risky behaviors; tendency for anxiety, depression, and impulsivity; poor academic performance; and sleep disturbances. A progressive increase in consumption was also noted of 25% to 75% within 5 years. Findings suggest that standardized consumption pattern assessment be included in evaluations of mental health to determine potential causal relationships. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: High-risk birth is a public health problem that generates atypical parenting practices. This study aimed to identify these practices to construct and validate a scale to measure parenting factors and attitudes in children with high-risk birth parents. METHODS: The instrument was applied to an intentional non-probabilistic sample of 701 parents of children with high-risk births (age range 17-64 years). The scale consists of 56 items, each with five Likert-type response options. RESULTS: As a result of the factor analysis with Varimax rotation, the final version was divided into two subscales: factors and attitudes associated with parenting skills. In the first, with 36 items and six factors (low educational skills, overprotection, and permissive parenting, dissatisfaction with the parental role, stress in raising a child with a high-risk birth, tri-generational disapproval of the parental role, and positive support from the extended family), a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.90 was obtained, explaining 53.16 of the variance. In the second subscale, with 30 items grouped in four factors (parenting beliefs, negative coping with high-risk birth, self-validation in parenting, and parental resilience to the experience of high-risk birth parenting), a Cronbach's alpha of 0.82 was obtained, explaining 48.08 of the variance. CONCLUSIONS: We suggest that this scale be applied together with others that measure theoretically related variables.

Caffeine is the most consumed psychostimulant worldwide. Its use among children is controversial. Although it produces an increase in brain activity, it could hamper growth and development in young consumers. Therefore, the aim of this review was to recognize changes produced by caffeine in children under 12 years of age and to identify the relevant alterations and the conditions of their occurrence. A systematic review of the literature was carried out using PRISMA. Initially, 5468 articles were found from the EBSCO, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Clarivate Analytics databases. In this review, were retained 24 published articles that met the inclusion criteria. The results obtained showed that caffeine consumption hampers children's growth and development. In contrast, it supports the activation of the central nervous system and brain energy management.

Abstract The present study aims to develop the short version of one of the four subscales of the Multidimensional Inventory of Infidelity. The original Inventory includes a total of 155 items distributed in four subscales: infidelity behavior subscale; infidelity motivation subscale; associated conceptualization of infidelity subscale; and consequences of infidelity subscale. This study developed the short version of the conceptualization of infidelity subscale using a confirmatory factor analysis. The subscale has six dimensions, and for each dimension three items with the highest factor loadings were chosen. The 18 items were answered by 940 heterosexual adults with an exclusive partner, 458 men and 482 women. The results show a model that uses all the original six dimensions and has a good fit for GFI, AGFI, CFI, and RMSEA. Cronbach's alpha coefficient total was .90. It can be concluded that the obtained version is short, practical, valid, reliable and culturally relevant for Mexican adults. It can be concluded that the research successfully developed a short, practical, reliable, valid, and culturally relevant scale for Mexican adults.

Abstract The purpose of this research was to describe the eating practices (EP) of indigenous women in Hidalgo (Mexico), based on their children's sex and nutritional status (NS). A total of 19 mother-child dyads participated (Mage mother = 33.5 years, SD = 7.1, Mage children = 6.0 years, SD = 0.4). The mothers were interviewed and, to estimate the NS of their children, they were weighed and measured. The information was analyzed by categories based on the factors of the Questionnaire of Attitudes, Beliefs and Practices of the Parents towards the Feeding of their Children. Alt hough mothers with healthy children (height normal and normal weight) and those of children with poor nutrition showed common EP, they also presented some differences. These were mainly related to the perception of the weight of their children, which was not consistent with the real NS, characterized by underestimation. In both sexes (son/daughter) there was a high presence of almost all categories of analysis, but mostly among mothers with girls. This study represents a first approach to the knowledge of the maternal EP of indigenous women according to the NS and sex of their children, whose results support the need to continue deepening the study of this type of population.

Abstract: The characteristics associated with masculinity and femininity are a topic of interest because of the impact that gender roles have on the daily lives of human beings. Mexico is a cultural mosaic in which coexist different traditions that express how roles can be more or less flexible or rigid, depending on the region. This study aimed to understand the behavior of a scale of gender roles applied in different parts of the country, to 1,624 people from four regions (Northeast, North Pacific, Central and Southeast). The scale proved to be culturally sensitive and revealed variations in the perception of the gender roles that correspond with the cultural characteristics of the area of the country from which the data were extracted, but consistent factors, such as the "absence of male emotional expressiveness", are also observed. Findings are discussed in the light of the current literature, and we make some suggestions to be applied in the education of future men and women, to be more equitable and democratic generations.
